The Group's Hongdao processing complex, located in Qingdao’s Ocean Tech Development Zone, first began operations in February 2009. Featuring state-of-the-art facilities, the fish processing and cold storage complex covers an area of 333,335 square metres and integrates eight processing workshops, one fishmeal plant, and six warehouses. It is one of the largest and most comprehensively equipped fish processing facilities in the world with an annual production output volume of 60,000 tonnes and cold storage capacity of 40,000 tonnes.
Environmental considerations and employee well-being were incorporated into the design and planning of the complex right from the outset, making it a world-class facility. Robust management systems to ensure product quality, good environmental management and occupational health and safety drive continuous improvements.
In China high worker turnover in factories is a common challenge so we have focused our attention on creating working environments that provide processing workers a ‘home away from home’. With over 4500 processing workers each year, our Hongdao processing complex has been designed to facilitate better work-life balance. We provide an onsite medical clinic and dormitories are equipped with 24 hour hot water supply, a cable TV system in each room and laundry services. We have also expanded the range of leisure activities to include karaoke rooms, billiard lounges, a fitness centre and yoga studio, an internet café, refreshment lounges and bars, and outdoor sports facilities. In 2012 we opened our first cake shop because feedback from workers showed us that this is something that they would really value.
