As a business fundamentally linked to food, we increasingly recognise that food security will continue to be a global challenge. We will actively look for opportunities to link food security to our community investment initiatives.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
In 2012 our Managing Director and Vice-Chairman, Joo Siang Ng, was one of three private sector representatives in Hong Kong nominated to sit on APEC’s newly formed Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS), for an initial period of three years. This new body will play a significant role in identifying the key challenges in improving food security in the APEC region and in recommending appropriate policy initiatives going forward. The long term goal of the PPFS is to attain a food system structure by 2020 sufficient to provide lasting food security to APEC member economies.
Pacific Andes is active on two working groups under PPFS. Working Group 1: “Stock-take & Road Map Towards 2020” and Working Group 2: “Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries Sectors”. As the only direct fishing company on the policy group, we have an important role to play in driving the sustainable fisheries and aquaculture agendas.
